Accountfully believes people are greater than numbers, and we are on a mission to prove it. We enjoy featuring our eclectic employees with a spotlight that shows the world a bit more about them behind the outsourced accounting scenes.
Jessica Zales is one of our Northeastern-based remote Accountants. She admittedly stumbled into the accounting world because she got along well with numbers and it was the first option on the Common App; a platform for applying to multiple universities from one spot. Enter an inspiring professor and bam–her career was born. Just like this rather chill way to choose her life’s path, is Jessica’s demeanor. Learn what fills her free time when she is not doing her special Debits and Credits dance at work.
Jessica grew up in Caldwell, New Jersey, and graduated from the University of Rhode Island with a B.S. in Business Administration – Accounting. “I always liked math classes and thought it would be a good starting major. After my first Intro to Accounting class, I was hooked! My first professor was intent on making Accounting fun, doing a little dance to teach us about debits and credits that I still think of when doing journal entries.”
Since 2022, Jessica has been a Staff Accountant working remotely from Boonton, New Jersey. She especially enjoys the part of her role where she has the opportunity to (as she puts it), “Wrangle some hard-to-manage accounts.”
“The ability to be able to reach out to anyone (absolutely anyone) and knowing that they truly would be happy to help me work through whatever issue I have. I also love the stability and structure to this job–knowing what is expected of me.”
Jessica began babysitting when she was 13. Rumor has it that she still dabbles in this at times.
Cuddles and kitty time are the primary choices. She says, “Cuddling with my kitty Poe, going for a walk around Boonton, then a nice German beer and some TV.”
“I can't help but laugh at people falling down, I know it's terrible but it honestly gets me every time.”
While Jessica does have a nickname, she can’t share it. “Yes, but I cannot tell you, it's too embarrassing.”
Turns out Jessica has amassed a pretty extensive amount of practice when it comes to Karaoke, and no classic 90’s Grunge song is safe.
“My mom purchased a karaoke machine during the pandemic to help us get through the long days. My go-to is probably Alive by Pearl Jam, I love to belt out a song and make everyone suffer through my rendition. Or a terrible version of any Beyonce song.”
“I would love to be a Highland Cow out in Scotland/Ireland, they seem like they have an amazing life, eat and sleep ALL day, live in a gorgeous place, ideal.”
