Employee Spotlight:  Nolan Godfrey

Accountfully believes people are greater than numbers, and we are on a mission to prove it.  We enjoy featuring our eclectic employees with a spotlight that shows the world a bit more about them behind the outsourced accounting scenes. 

If there ever was a perfect fit for an accountant who loves people, our Senior Accountant, Nolan is it.  He is a remote team member and works from Quakertown, Pennsylvania.  Join us as we dive into the wonderful world of Nolan and hear his thoughts about being part of Team Accountfully.  Spoiler alert - he has a lot of positive feedback about his new role at Accountfully, and we are not ashamed to share it.

Nolan’s Role at Accountfully:  I am a Senior Accountant with Accountfully on the recurring operations team. I love my role with this organization, as it provides me with a wide range and variety of tasks which I am responsible for weekly, monthly and yearly. 

Traditionally, accounting can become very repetitive, but the model of Accountfully’s recurring client services combats this monotonous nature. Being mentally invested into our clients financial performance from their inventory tracking and reconciliation, to month-end financial review, deduction management, or revenue and COGS recognition, brings so much variation which keeps me engaged. My role requires constant learning and I love that! 

First job:  My first job was as a courtesy clerk at the grocery store. I really enjoyed working at the local grocery store because I was able to help customers every day in many different ways. It was a customer facing role where I was able to interact and communicate with people, and develop relationships. People interaction is something I treasure and hold dear – I love people.

Favorite way to unwind after a busy day:  At the end of the day I like to enjoy spending time with my wife and daughter. My almost year-old daughter just started walking and that has been extremely fun. I love playing my guitar at the end of the day and serving my family by making them dinner.

Work-related accomplishment Nolan is most proud of:

I am very excited for the potential growth on the horizon that I see with Accountfully. To be a part of a company driven by culture, in the state of hyperactive growth that it currently is in, is a blessing I do not take for granted. I have always loved public accounting because of the people interaction, however I always hated the time-demand of the busy season, working constantly, and not seeing my family. When I discovered Accountfully and that I could pursue public accounting in a model that promotes serving clients faithfully, and being able to have flexibility to be with my family and have work-life balance, I was ecstatic. I count it a huge blessing from God to be a part of an organization whose leaders, vision and goal I can stand-behind and contribute towards.

Favorite part of working at Accountfully:  The culture here at Accountfully is second to none and it is only preserved by the level of kindness and professionalism that the Accountfully team offers on a daily basis. The Accountfully team is so diverse in many different aspects, and I find it opportune for growth and learning.

What makes Nolan laugh the most:  I’m a laugher, it doesn’t take much. Currently, I would say my daughter’s little giggle, and our Australian Shepherd, Finn, (he currently is about 25 lbs overweight and he is on a weight loss diet, so he gets the brunt of many jokes… lol) are big laugh factors. My wife somehow has a brilliant way of always getting me to laugh at the dumbest things, it’s wonderful. Laughter warms the heart!

Previous Nicknames:  Not any good ones.  No, Nolan James, Nolan Michael, Noly Polly – I like giving nicknames! But I’m open to suggestions if anyone has some ideas! Hah (Editor's note:  Leave us some in the comments and we will gladly pass them along!)

Which animal Nolan would be and why:  I have always loved sheep. I think they are such peaceful and kind animals, with very little worry at all. They might be a little dumb, but if they have a good shepherd their life is good. They aren’t in it for glory or power, just for peace and service. I like serving people.

What Nolan wants the world to know about him:  As I have grown, gotten married, and started raising a child; my perspective on life has changed and I have realized what truly matters. My own priorities have shifted and with that Accountfully has allowed me the opportunity to balance work and my other callings. Finding a company like Accountfully is a needle in a haystack – they care greatly about their employees and the culture harvests a deep motivation to perform, serve and contribute. Being an employee with Accountfully has given me fulfillment professionally and it has extended over into so many other areas of my life.
