Accountfully believes people are greater than numbers, and we are on a mission to prove it. We enjoy featuring our eclectic employees with a spotlight that shows the world a bit more about them behind the accounting scenes.
Meet Heather Wilson, Accounting Manager in Raleigh, North Carolina. We shall dub her the small business founder’s race car mechanic. She loves digging in and understanding what (literally) drives the business and can identify upgrades or repairs needed to reach the founder’s goals.
When Heather reflects on her role as Accounting Manager, it is all about adding value. She says,
“I aim to add value to clients whenever possible, whether by offering additional advisory services or connecting them with other Accountfully teams, such as Inventory or Tax.”
It’s this mindset that makes our team of accountants stand out from the rest–building relationships, identifying opportunities, and applying passion to support small business success. Let’s learn more about Heather’s journey becoming the accounting pro she is today.
Heather joined Accountfully in 2024, working remotely from Raleigh, North Carolina. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from the University of Phoenix. Like many small town southerners, she began her degree in Kennesaw, GA then decided she wanted to see West. Naturally, she finished her degree on the opposite side of the nation in Arizona–a big shift from her hometown of Forsyth, GA.
But why accounting? For Heather, accounting is like seeing what powers the business.
“I loved learning about what was 'under the hood.' Finances—and clean accounting—are the backbone of every successful business, and I love being a part of that.”
Even in her first professional role, Heather found ways to add value and take on more responsibility.
“I started as a hostess at an Italian restaurant at 15 and became manager by 17. It was a family-owned spot, small and charming, with delicious homemade Italian food.”
Depending on the day’s events, you may find Heather either at the gym or putting her brain to work on a complex puzzle (that isn't numbers-based).
“Getting a good sweat with a hard workout, puzzling, or reading. I also love to hike! (Guess it depends on how my day went - ha!)”
“In my previous role, I spearheaded and successfully completed a funding round, securing $7 million for the startup I helped lead.”
Heather enjoys her role because it all comes back to direct impact on client success–and she has plenty of it here.
“I love the impact our services have on our clients. Being able to guide them and provide the financial clarity they need to run their businesses in the best way possible is incredibly rewarding. It’s fulfilling to see the difference we make in helping them grow and succeed.”
Doug Heffernan (IYKYK)
“My husband calls me jefe—pronounced he-fay—which means 'boss' in Spanish. Do with that what you will!”
For Heather, the roaring (19)20’s is where it is at!
“I would travel back to the 1920s because I love the glam, the energy, and the sense of excitement that defined the era. The Roaring Twenties were all about growth, celebration, and breaking traditions—people embraced bold fashion, incredible music like jazz, and a carefree spirit after a tough period. I’m fascinated by the iconic style, like flapper dresses and art deco design, and the way it felt like a time of endless possibilities and reinvention. Plus, the idea of attending a Gatsby-style party, surrounded by live jazz and a buzzing crowd, seems like an experience unlike any other!”
“I want the world to know that I value kindness above all else—it costs nothing but makes a world of difference. I always strive to find joy and calmness in any situation, no matter how challenging. And finally, I try not to take myself too seriously. Life is short, and a little humor and lightheartedness go a long way in keeping things in perspective.”
