We have always been a company that enjoys playing together after work. All work and no play can make us accountants pretty dull, as they say. Lucky for us, we never have to worry about that. We are always seeking fun team activities to stay social and active together outside of the outsourced accounting hustle. How do we keep the team spirit alive across two locations and a growing remote workforce? Let us share a few of the ways we accomplish this.
Both Charleston and Nashville offices have entered adult Volleyball leagues. Each team sports their best Accountfully gear and plays against other teams in the area once a week. Nashville has had a few setbacks due to Tornado warnings, but they started the season off with a bang, being undefeated. Charleston’s team naturally has stiffer competition, being a beach town, but that has not stopped them from putting in some amazing games so far. The team names do not disappoint, either. Nashville is team LIFO the Party and Charleston is known simply as AccountVolley.
Our Charleston and Nashville offices share homes with some fun Baseball teams; The Nashville Sounds and the Charleston Riverdogs. Our Nashville crew has already attended their first Sounds game in April and even caught two foul balls!
Happy hours have always been a tradition for us, but lately we have been adding more happy hour opportunities to the mix. Our hybrid or in-office teams will gather in-person each quarter, and our remote team has started a weekly tradition over Google Meet.
Each year we log our steps and compete against each other in creatively named teams for a Step Challenge. Outside of the epic team names (like Undefeeted, and Chicks with Kicks, among others), we enjoy a healthy dose of competitive trash talk over our dedicated Slack channel, and get our exercise in at the same time. The challenge lasts a month and various prizes for weekly and overall performance are given out.
Our Charleston and Nashville teams make time throughout the year to dedicate our time and labor to local non-profits and charity events. Our activities span prepping gardens for The Green Heart Project, packing Halloween candy bags for military families, to serving food at local soup kitchens.
Work vacation to Charleston to hang out with your eclectic colleagues? Count us in. Every year in September, we all gather in Charleston to be together as a team, in person. We spend two days participating in fun team-building activities like scavenger hunts, sunset cruise happy hours, and more. A lot of planning goes into the event, but it has always ended in high fives and a strengthened sense of camaraderie across the company.
